Course Goals

GOALS
Some goals that I have for this year in terms of art are probably learning about figure drawing since it's something that I have tried but wasn't any improvement from a vaguely humanoid figure even though I practiced. This class will hopefully teach me how to learn to do that properly. If we're actually talking about overall school goals I think that my goal is to stay on top of my homework since it's only the third day and I'm already scrambling a bit.

ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF ART
The elements of art include color, form, line, space, texture, and value. The elements help art transfer from the brain onto paper since they are the main component in anyone's artwork. This is an image that shows it pretty well in my opinion.

The principles of art include balance, emphasis, movement, proportion, rhythm, unity and variety. The principles can help you structure your art and help to organize it. Here's an image that can help show it.

COLOR WHEEL

That above there is a colour wheel. Made by Isaac Newton It shows the colour hues around a circle. With this colour wheel, you can and white and change the tint and layer and add bits of darker colours to shade it. A colour wheel typically consists of the three primary colours (red, blue, yellow), secondary colours which are the hues that form when you mix two primary colours together (orange, green, violet) and tertiary colours which are the combinations of secondary colours and primary colours (the names are also just a combination of the primary and secondary name). You can use the color wheel to match up colours that will look good together in your work.

YOUR DEFINITION OF ART
Art to me is a way to present what I can't say or write out in words to the world. It's something that I enjoy and even though personally I don't think I'm the best it makes me really really happy. That's why I took this class, to get better and be able to show why I'm happy with other people.

Tripod Mug

Tripod mug Insert pre fire photo here: Construction What skills, techniques, or process did you employ to create your mug? I used the reductive technique. I carved out designs into the sides of the piece and worked my not all the way up it. How does your final construction look? Also describe the difficulties in construction. My final construction is a little lopsided but other than that I think that I really like how it turned out. I struggled a little with the undulation of the mug and the lid but in the end it turned out okay. Glazing Insert Pre fired Glaze photo: Insert your post fire Glaze photo: Glaze Record and technique: 3 Coats Cherry Blossom Celadon (overall) 3 Coats Arctic Blue Potters Choice (band around the top) Final thoughts about your mug with a selfie out of your mug in the cafeteria: I really enjoyed this project and I’m happy that I get to use this mug in the future because I made it! I think it turned out a lot better than ...

Final Reflection

Image
CERAMICS FINAL REFLECTION Photo of final glaze piece Final thought on the best parts of this piece. Project 1 I thought that the best parts of this piece were the inside glazing and the small diamond detail I added to the front. I actually put a lot more care into these parts than any other part of the piece and I think that they ended up turning out better because of that. Project 2 I liked how the details on the body turned out  on this piece. I used slip trailing to get it to look the way that I wanted it to look. With the glazing it pops a little and I’m very proud of it. Project 3 I used the mug for the first time and I got really giddy and excited because, “Oh my god I made this alkshfla.” I really liked how the glazing worked with the carvings I had. You can see them clearly on the bottom but they’re more obscured on the top and it gives it this really cool effect. Project 4 This shoe was difficult but eventually I got it mostly right I t...

My Independent Writing Project: The School of Fighting Arts Against Demonkind

Author’s Note Dear Reader, The idea for this may seem a bit strange at first, but I urge you to give it a shot. It’s not as weird as you think. It came to me in the middle of class while I was discussing a different topic in a critique group. So many people at SAS are mixed, part Asian, part something else; I began to think: what if there was a girl just like that in a story? And, of course, not just your typical coming of age story where the girl finally comes to terms with being half one culture and half another. More of a girl who knew who she was but was held back because people were scared of her. And thus the character Amani Kearny was born. Writing her was fun and after a certain point, it was like I wasn’t typing. There’s a certain way Amani talks — loads of sarcasm along with the barest hints to what she actually feels— that makes her feel like a lot of the people that I talk to on a daily basis. Which is most likely why it was so interesting. If I had...
