Origami Bowls

ORIGAMI BOWL Construction photo: Describe your process of creating the cuts and shape of your bowl: I decided to make two bowls that would be from the same template but of different sizes. The cuts I made were from a square shape rather than my original idea of using an octagon after I saw some more flower types of bowls. That was how I decided to make diagonal and straight cuts to achieve a more petal like look that I think I achieved during construction. Insert Pre-fired Glaze Photo: Insert Post-fired Glaze Photo: Describe the reaction between the glaze and glass effect or your glaze combination: PIECE 1: MEG-100 White - 3 coats The glaze was white so there wasn’t much color change in the glass but the amber glass does stand out really nicely. Three coatings didn’t seem to be enough though ad the glaze seems slightly patchy and not that great. PIECE 2: Western Smoke Blue - 3 Coats The glaze melted into the glass turning it blue along the edges...

Ceramics 2 Final

Ceramics 2 Final Planning and Construction Insert your sketch or plans: Insert your Construction photo: Describe your thoughts or idea and the construction techniques you planned to use. At the start of the process my ideas were to use slab and mold it to the shape of a bowl after using a roller on the slab.  That didn’t go so well the first time so I spent a lot of time trying to make it work. Then I attached them to another slab and started coil work. That was how I did the foot and the neck. That was my original idea for them. One of the criteria is for you to be able to create what you have planned out.  How accurate were you in trying to create your idea from sketch to clay? I think that I was able to get a pretty good rendition of what I set out to do. The design pattern matches and so do the foot and neck and that really was the base of my project.   How would you plan differently next time? I did go over the time limit a little bit s...

Coil Vessel

Coil Vessel Insert post construction photo: (Forgot it… sorry!) Describe what you liked about the coil process of building: I think that it’s really easy to fall into a rhythm with coil building and being able to watch it build up to become something is what I really enjoy. Describe your frustrations: There was a point as I was cleaning my piece that it popped off the base and I was very very angry because of it. We were able to fix it but it put me a little farther behind than I wanted to be. Did your original idea change? If yes what changes occured? It did change a little. Originally it was meant to have a complete cut out with a slab in the back with some cut out gears on there. After finishing the piece though I thought it made more sense to just have a small cut out and glue on gears after it was fired so that it would look better and be more structurally sound. How could you have constructed better? I could have smoothed it more and focused o...

Woven Bowl

Woven Bowl Blog Post Construction Photo 1: Entire piece Photo 2: Rim/finish Photo 3: Detail Reflection:   Describe what you enjoyed about the weaving technique. It was actually really therapeutic to go back and forth constantly and after the first few folds you start to see what you’ve been working on and it becomes really easy to be proud of what youve done. What did you find difficult in the construction process and why? There were two things that I found difficult, one was making sure that the coils didnt break as I weaved them and figuring out what to put on the lip finish. I didn’t want to leave it an empty block but I wasn’t sure about what I wanted it to look like for a while so it was difficult to figure out.
