Final Reflection

Image
CERAMICS FINAL REFLECTION Photo of final glaze piece Final thought on the best parts of this piece. Project 1 I thought that the best parts of this piece were the inside glazing and the small diamond detail I added to the front. I actually put a lot more care into these parts than any other part of the piece and I think that they ended up turning out better because of that. Project 2 I liked how the details on the body turned out  on this piece. I used slip trailing to get it to look the way that I wanted it to look. With the glazing it pops a little and I’m very proud of it. Project 3 I used the mug for the first time and I got really giddy and excited because, “Oh my god I made this alkshfla.” I really liked how the glazing worked with the carvings I had. You can see them clearly on the bottom but they’re more obscured on the top and it gives it this really cool effect. Project 4 This shoe was difficult but eventually I got it mostly right I t...

Shoe Sculpture

Image
Shoe Sculpture Insert Construction Photo: Insert Reference Photo: Describe all the skills you used to create the sculpture: The first was with the slab and making, cutting and undulating it to get the top of the shoe and attaching it later. The next part was carving it using tools like popsicle sticks and the knife to cut away things. List your areas of difficulties and why: I had to restart completely because I let my sole harden and eventually the top of the shoe started cracking in four places eventually just giving up and breaking in those places. I had to restart and make sure that as I undulated it I made sure that it stayed moist and as I was putting it up to finish shaping it I made sure that where it was supposed to stay attached wet as well. Tripod Mug

Tripod mug Insert pre fire photo here: Construction What skills, techniques, or process did you employ to create your mug? I used the reductive technique. I carved out designs into the sides of the piece and worked my not all the way up it. How does your final construction look? Also describe the difficulties in construction. My final construction is a little lopsided but other than that I think that I really like how it turned out. I struggled a little with the undulation of the mug and the lid but in the end it turned out okay. Glazing Insert Pre fired Glaze photo: Insert your post fire Glaze photo: Glaze Record and technique: 3 Coats Cherry Blossom Celadon (overall) 3 Coats Arctic Blue Potters Choice (band around the top) Final thoughts about your mug with a selfie out of your mug in the cafeteria: I really enjoyed this project and I’m happy that I get to use this mug in the future because I made it! I think it turned out a lot better than ...

Coil Vessel

Image
Coil Vessel Insert post construction photo: Describe what you liked about the coil process of building: It was rhythmic so there wasn't much stopping which made working a lot easier than say the slab where we were constantly cutting and putting things together. I also like how it looks at the end as well as how simple it was do the undulation.  Describe your frustrations: There was a point as I worked on the neck where it wasn't going so well and an entire section had to be peeled off because of I did not blend it correctly so that was frustrating. Also as I worked on the last coils, it kept on thinning and I had to put on another backing coil. Did your original idea change? If yes what changes occurred? It did not chain in terms of the form of the piece but more of the design. Originally I was considering putting something extra on the side but since I ran out of time it changed to being slip trails that I am actually quite happy about. How could you ...

Slab Box

Image
Slab Construction Construction Reflection:   Describe what you enjoyed about the construction- I thought that it would be a lot harder than it actually was so that was really enjoyable. I was also able to put together the idea I had and it looked the way that I wanted to as well. Describe what you found difficult or needed more instruction- It was a bit hard for me to figure out how to clean up the inside of my piece since it was at an angle and I didn't really like the fact that I didn't know how to clean it properly. What do you think about the final outcome of your construction- I think that there is still a lot of improvement that I could show. The corners of mine ended up rounding out and the lid was sitting a bit oddly. For my first time doing it though, it was the best product I could put out I think.
