Gallery Visit # 2

Another gallery that I visited over the summer was the one at the Dallas Museum of Art. It's actually the art gallery that I went to the most when I was in middle and elementary school. It's not as big as the museum in Chicago but, it's one that's very near and dear to me. I got the chance to spend the whole day there and I was able to visit most of the rooms including Islamic Art, African Art, Surrealism and more. It's Hot By Coreen Mary Spellman This was one of the pieces that really caught my eye as I was walking through. Next to artfully colored paintings, it stuck out to me because of its simplicity. One thing that it taught me was that you don't need to go overboard with details in order to convey your message. Sometimes the message can be done artfully and cleanly. I used that in one of my sustained investigations actually. Another thing that I really took away from looking at the piece was how to make an engaging figure. The pose and the content...

Gallery Visit #1

Image
This summer I visited the Art Institute of Chicago and I have to say that it was one of the highlights of my vacation. I got to see a lot of artwork from artists that I respect greatly and the chance to see some pieces that I hold in a legendary light in my eyes. Some pieces though, I wasn't expecting to enjoy as much as I did and now that I'm knee-deep in my sustained investigation I can see how they help me.  A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte By: Georges Seurat This painting is one that really supports what I'm doing. It's a snapshot, the daily life of some people, the everyday goings-on. That's what I want to focus on in my Sustained Investigation. I definitely picked up a few things while I was looking at this painting, one contrasting. The world isn't always bright and you can expect that people are going to be sitting in the shade or keeping themselves cool. I want to include that real-life aspect while still keeping a sort of ma...
