Gallery Visit 1
The Gallery that I found was the Sculpture Gallery from the Glass House created by Philip Johnson. While there are many different types of sculptures inside, what caught my eye the most was the gallery itself, the building that housed so much art. It was made specifically to hold sculptures and this gave me ideas for my own sustained investigation.
1.
The gallery as you can see in the picture above was built around the sculptures, and it allowed me to take away the idea that I could build a structure around something that was considered 'shelter' as per my question. 2.
The next takeaway was lighting. The way that the gallery was made allows for light to change the way that things look depending on the time of day. It uses geometric patterns which were not something that I had thought about for my own works before this. 3.
The third takeaway was that of contrast in the material. This particular photo shows the contrast between the floor walls and ceiling in terms of texture and material. I think that this gives me some understanding of how I might vary the materials I use in order to gain such contrast.
4.
The final takeaway was about the exterior. It's very simple much like the interior but rather than use the variety of materials used in the interior it separates itself by being very angular among a very natural scene. This is another lesson in contrast where I've realized that if I'm doing buildings, I can contrast the building with the area that I'm photographing.
