Where is the Synthesis?

    Ideas: I feel like I connected the literal idea of shelter and then use Sustainned 4 as a transition into the more conceptual side. 

    Materials: For the materials, I've used very sturdy materials even if they have varied slightly. I think this also adds a connected element of sturdiness throughout this investigation. 

    Process: I think that I've been questioning the word shelter a lot and that has lead me to be creative in the way that I ideate for this sustained and I think that's evident in the pieces that I have put out. 

Where are your hiccups? 


I feel like I learned a little bit about making my Sculpey too thin and not putting any support in it. I'm going to do my best to remember that mistake in my future projects! 

I had a bit of a hiccup with my bamboo legs splitting from where they were put together. It was because of this and the general haphazardness of the whole piece that I'm thinking about replacing it with one of my Bootcamp pieces. 

I made my clay a little too thin, and so when it came out of the kiln it cracked and you can see from the image where I had to improvise when trying to put the piece back together while still keeping the meaning.

Final Reflection

CERAMICS FINAL REFLECTION Photo of final glaze piece Final thought on the best parts of this piece. Project 1 I thought that the best parts of this piece were the inside glazing and the small diamond detail I added to the front. I actually put a lot more care into these parts than any other part of the piece and I think that they ended up turning out better because of that. Project 2 I liked how the details on the body turned out  on this piece. I used slip trailing to get it to look the way that I wanted it to look. With the glazing it pops a little and I’m very proud of it. Project 3 I used the mug for the first time and I got really giddy and excited because, “Oh my god I made this alkshfla.” I really liked how the glazing worked with the carvings I had. Author’s Note Dear Reader, The idea for this may seem a bit strange at first, but I urge you to give it a shot. It’s not as weird as you think. It came to me in the middle of class while I was discussing a different topic in a critique group. So many people at SAS are mixed, part Asian, part something else; I began to think: what if there was a girl just like that in a story? And, of course, not just your typical coming of age story where the girl finally comes to terms with being half one culture and half another.
