Group Presentation on NA Issues

1. Land Disputes
  a.  Senators-They should sell the land for the good of America and for the wealth of the land.
  b. Apache- This is holy land and they don't want to mess up the land. It has a cultural value and belongs to the NA's legally.

2.  Artifact Return
  a. Archeologists- They think they shouldn't give back the artifacts because then they won't be able to study the past of the Natives. If they give them back they won't be able to study them.
  b. Natives- Some have very significant value to the tribe and

4. Native Hawaiian Government Recognition
  a.  For- The benefits about being recognized have great health care. IF they are not recognized then as they live in Poverty and are more susceptible to diseases then it's much easier to develop diabetes and heart conditions. Along with this they can get good schooling.
  b.  Against- They should be left alone because the Government wants to overthrow them. They have been warned about how when the Government says they'll give you the benefits but you won't truly own the land you live on.

5. Legacy of Indian Schools
  a. For- they totally help and give free clothes schooling food and health care. They can open new doors for The NAtives. They need to Integrate because our world is changing fast and sometimes you need to let go of old traditions.
  b. Against- For the children, they leave home and don't learn anything of their past religion or culture.They may give them better education but it is not right that they don'r grow up with their parents or family and they don't get to learn from their parents.

6. Portrayal of Native Americans in the Media
  a. Against- They show them in degenerate way using racist slurs in children's movies to portray them. They make it seem as though they are savages. They get stereotyped in very rude ways.
  b. For- They show them in a cartoon way and making it a little fun for the children watching. They are more stereotyped in these being savages. It's just a fun thing with no real harm meant.

Final Reflection

CERAMICS FINAL REFLECTION Photo of final glaze piece Final thought on the best parts of this piece. Project 1 I thought that the best parts of this piece were the inside glazing and the small diamond detail I added to the front. I actually put a lot more care into these parts than any other part of the piece and I think that they ended up turning out better because of that. Project 2 I liked how the details on the body turned out  on this piece. I used slip trailing to get it to look the way that I wanted it to look. With the glazing it pops a little and I’m very proud of it. Project 3 I used the mug for the first time and I got really giddy and excited because, “Oh my god I made this alkshfla.” I really liked how the glazing worked with the carvings I had. Author’s Note Dear Reader, The idea for this may seem a bit strange at first, but I urge you to give it a shot. It’s not as weird as you think. It came to me in the middle of class while I was discussing a different topic in a critique group. So many people at SAS are mixed, part Asian, part something else; I began to think: what if there was a girl just like that in a story? And, of course, not just your typical coming of age story where the girl finally comes to terms with being half one culture and half another. More of a girl who knew who she was but was held back because people were scared of her. And thus the character Amani Kearny was born. Writing her was fun and after a certain point, it was like I wasn’t typing.
