Sculpture: Reductive





This was our final project. When we first got it I sketched out some ideas on the page, I wanted to take some influence from the Celtic and Egyptian projects because of how the shapes are very geometric. For the surface, I used the cutout idea but made it more of an amoeba shape. For volume, I used the one hoke design at the top that you can see in the first photo. I ended up needing to reduce the sculpture a bit more but it has the overall shape that I wanted to go for. I also changed the color scheme to gold and silver after hearing that it looked like an award. I think that if I had some more time then I could have refined it more and made it somewhat better. I do like how the top part of the piece ended up turning out.

Final Reflection

CERAMICS FINAL REFLECTION Photo of final glaze piece Final thought on the best parts of this piece. Project 1 I thought that the best parts of this piece were the inside glazing and the small diamond detail I added to the front. I actually put a lot more care into these parts than any other part of the piece and I think that they ended up turning out better because of that. Project 2 I liked how the details on the body turned out  on this piece. I used slip trailing to get it to look the way that I wanted it to look. With the glazing it pops a little and I’m very proud of it. Project 3 I used the mug for the first time and I got really giddy and excited because, “Oh my god I made this alkshfla.” I really liked how the glazing worked with the carvings I had. Author’s Note Dear Reader, The idea for this may seem a bit strange at first, but I urge you to give it a shot. It’s not as weird as you think. It came to me in the middle of class while I was discussing a different topic in a critique group. So many people at SAS are mixed, part Asian, part something else; I began to think: what if there was a girl just like that in a story?
